Homelessness Prevention Grant Program

Do you Need Help to Remain Stable and Housed? HCA Can Help.

Many low- and moderate-income Arlington families struggle to make ends meet amid ever rising housing costs and stagnant wages. Unexpected medical bills, a drop in income or a number of other life events can put our neighbors at risk of losing their homes.

HCA created our Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) in 2001 to provide financial support to Arlington residents facing a housing crisis.  HPP provides grants on a case-by-case basis to help residents stabilize their situations and maintain their housing. The program covers back rent, or security deposit or moving costs for a new home. The Homelessness Prevention Grant Program is supported by generous donations from Arlington residents and by Town of Arlington Community Preservation Act funds.

How Does it Work?

A three-person Review Committee makes funding decisions based on the eligibility requirements as well as availability of funds.  The Review Committee is made up of a representative of one representative of the Human Services Department for the Town of Arlington, and two appointed community members. The committee is staffed by HCA’s Social Service Manager, who initially reviews and vets all applications.

Funding Priorities: HPP prides itself on providing funding for every eligible applicant. In the unlikely event that our funds are insufficient to help all eligible applicants, priority will be given to victims of family violence, families with young children and disabled persons. All applicants must have housing in Arlington.
